Week 10 2D Design

Task 1: Concept Evaluation

Reflecting on the effectiveness of your design process and concept communication PART 1 – 20 mins

The GROUP verbally evaluates each member’s 2D Exhibition work
Scribe writes a summary paragraph on the 2 points below for each member

  1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
  2. 2.  Effectiveness of concept communication
PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post the group results in your blog with images and descriptive text

Jacob's Design

  1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
Jacob sketches the character and scene, including text before he adds them to illustrator and In Design, which is a great process to follow as the message is clear before you begin with the final design.

  2. 2.  Effectiveness of concept communication
The message is very clear in the words used and in the character animation. Clear communication.

Jacob was looking for a DL design idea, here is one that is a good fit with his skills:

Cherill's Design

  1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
The design process is good as it makes something complex look simple. It was good to check how the colours looked when printed, not just on the screen. It is also clearly labeled which helps with the process and communication of the process.

  2. 2.  Effectiveness of concept communication
The concept was retro, fun and funky for women. It looked like a cocktail to some with a 60's pop art vibe. It is a good design for women. It was a good idea to show how the web page will look in an Illustrator file, clear communication of style and colour.

Queenie's Design

  1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
Great design process, starting with a written concept, a sketch, a painting by hand. All these elements then contributed to the final design.

  2. 2.  Effectiveness of concept communication
Queenie is trying to communicate action and student works, she has used colour to effectively communicate this.

June's Design

  1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
Good process as June sketched her idea, googled for images before working on them in photoshop. This was a great idea as we had very limited time, it was good to be able to communicate the idea before developing the design with individual photo work.

  2. 2.  Effectiveness of concept communication
Captivating photos, great tag line. The font and font colour could be double checked for clarity.

Here are some great ideas on how to take fabulous photos, using eggs as the sample.

The egg changes as the light changes.

    Reflection:

This week we have seen the importance of planning in the design process, to include size, colour, style, theme and content helps us guide our project to the finish. It doesn't mean there will be errors, but the plan helps to overcome the errors while still guided by the bigger picture.

Research:

I have been working on the DL flyer, trying to get the balloons to look smooth .. final result
