Great show of file structure, clearly labeled and easy to follow. 

I did find the blog list a little long, but it is very clearly labeled and therefore it is simple to find what you want.

Reviewing my own work  ... Good structure, makes sense, each to locate by the week. There is the odd week where I could separate my 2D and 3D work.

Queenie began her file formats with each project labeled by design requirement , by week 3 she saw that this was too complicated and simplified the format to weekly updates, this is a lot easier to follow.

Within each week is all 2&3D information.  Handouts also have there own file, again in the beginning they were placed in separate folders, but this was simplified to weeks.

Progress from last week:

We are in the process of printing our final designs on material, we have the $30 each, 2 out of 3 designs to begin with and the sewing will start shortly. We have also submitted our preferred floor plan and requirements for exhibition. Paul also continues to perfect the pocket on the helmet cover.

The challenge now for all is to use what we have learnt as we move forward.

We move forward slowly, designing extra helmet covers, printing information for the pin-board, contemplating the finish line ... as we do this we are very aware what needs to be done, we discuss all options for meeting our time frame.

Jacob's Design

   Jacob sketches the character and scene, including text before he adds them to illustrator and In Design, which is a great process to follow as the message is clear before you begin with the final design.

Cherill's Design

1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
   The design process is good as it makes something complex look simple. It was good to check how the colours looked when printed, not just on the screen. It is also clearly labeled which helps with the process and communication of the process.

   The concept was retro, fun and funky for women. It looked like a cocktail to some with a 60's pop art vibe. It is a good design for women. It was a good idea to show how the web page will look in an Illustrator file, clear communication of style and colour.

   Great design process, starting with a written concept, a sketch, a painting by hand. All these elements then contributed to the final design.

June's Design

   Good process as June sketched her idea, googled for images before working on them in photoshop. This was a great idea as we had very limited time, it was good to be able to communicate the idea before developing the design with individual photo work.

   Reflection:

   This week we have seen the importance of planning in the design process, to include size, colour, style, theme and content helps us guide our project to the finish. It doesn't mean there will be errors, but the plan helps to overcome the errors while still guided by the bigger picture.

Cherill's Group

   Great design process. The Design process included finding a problem - thinking of a solutions- lying to the experts - drafting templates - testing printing - make a prototype - make further adjustments. It started with an idea and hen has a step by step process.

   Effective communication was found with research, the correct material has been used, printing is successful and the template has been adjusted so the prototype also works well.

Jacobs Design

1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
   Jacobs Design started with the need to impress his young son, the character is very popular so the design started with a great character choice. Jacob then used PVA glue and also a flour and water mix as he experimented with the design. The process was successful as you can see in the above photo.

Junes Design

1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
   June started with a sketch of visual elements and the story. June then searched techniques used to create pop-up books, she read books and googled this information. June then trailed this information using different types of paper before she was able to create the final product. Great design process.

   It is clear from the picture that is is located in Thailand, words are needed to tell the story.

Queenies Design

1. 1.  Effectiveness of design process
   Queenie's group wrote a brief including size, number of pages, story content before they began with the illustrations. In the prototype stage of their design they also added Darwin as a theme. The illustrations were then added to Illustrator which changed the style. It would have been a good idea to research the printing at an earlier sage as this influences the size and page layout of the illustrations.

   The communication is clear with the colours and symbols of the Territory easy to identify. Also very clear that the little brown bear is on a trip.

Week 9 3D Design

Task 1: Design Realisation

This week we worked on our own exhibitions to meet the following criteria ....

1.  Work on your own for the exhibition

2.  Make a list of your proposed exhibition works

3.  Itemise:

Research:

Meeting with Paul and Katelyn I wanted to explore and expand the pin-board idea. Thankfully everyone is happy to run with the idea as it provides a visually exciting element to the project. The idea is to display the process, from simple beginnings and ideas displayed with original templates, post-it notes to final prints. Paul suggested we make the pin-board look like a serial killer board with thread connecting the ideas ... I like it. I thought we could also use Queenies concept and have the string on the pin-board start from the hall and run along the hall to the room and then the board.

Here the string joins locations on a map, it is suggested you use "map string".

Week 9 2D Design

Task 1: Concept Realisation

Here we take the DL flyer we have created and produce variations.

Here I have tried to use current trends in fashion colour to add a contemporary look. I have also used uppercase for the text to simplify the look and feel of the text.

As the lines make the design too busy and hard to read, I have added the colour in block form, I have used the shape of an app icon, something people are very familiar with.

With feedback from the lecturer I deleted the drop shadow on the text, removed the 11 and posterized the oranges. It was also suggested a photo of squeezing oranges might also add to the effect ... I'll try this at home.

Week 8 - 3D Design

This week we reviewed concept realisation and worked on our 3D Designs for exhibition.

Task 1: Concept Realisation

This task asked us to select materials, tools and equipment necessary for our 2D Design for exhibition. Our group 2D Design is the Web page for our Helmet Cover.

Materials:

Equipment:

We have discussed these items and requirements many times, as part of the process we reviewed what we needed and would need in the future, making the overall process seemless and simple.
This process can be helped by Edward de Bono's concept of the 6 hats, particularly he white and black hat. Being systematic and looking for problems helps the process flow smoothly.

Again, an example of why you should always think a task threw, maybe these people would have had some help at hand if they had done so. Maybe they need to wear the white and black hat.

Research:

This week we had time to work on our exhibit design. 

This is the web page colour scheme and layout I have in mind.

This is the helmet cover pattern Paul drafted from the physical working model of the helmet cover.

The pattern will aid our 2D illustrations as we can see were the prints will join.

Task 2: Concept Realisation - producing a range

Here we were required to create 3 headline variations for the Exhibition in 2012.

At first I worked with the orange to see if I could add any value to the original idea. Mark came up with the idea of 11 on an orange as Creative Arts are located in building Orange 11 ... I thought this was a good idea that I could incorporate into my work.

Then I made variations to the original DL flyer. I went with the number and not the face ....

Option 1

Draft rework on original idea - I don't like the colours (from Kuler selection of Orange Complementary - the red banner below is the University Colour)

Option 2

Stage 2 - took away the red banner and made them outlines instead

Option 3 - preferred option

Return to colours similar to original idea and kept the Uni colour outlines.

Research:

Our Web page should reflect the values of our logo.

The concepts I would like to communicate are retro and Funky. 

The feelings I would like to communicate are fun and good times ahead.

Based on the logo design I designed the web home page featured below.

The long boxes are to hold You Tube clips, while the square feature boxes will hold photos of the helmet covers, when clicked they will expand and give an option to purchase.

I chose a Kuler set of colours called 1920's craftsman, to this I added a neutral colour from a 1930's package colour selection. The colours to the right are part of the the 1920's craftsman set but I have not as yet included them on the web page.

Week 7 3D Design

This week we look at design communication with our 3D designs.

Task 1: Design Communication

This week's task asks us to choose a design from last week ...

We then list 2 key concepts we are trying to communicate:

• helmet covers are fashionable
• Helmet covers are contemporary 

and

We list 2 key feelings we are trying to communicate:

• I will look good in this helmet cover
• I look like an individual in this helmet cover, it expresses who I am

I think my design communicates these four key concepts, it would be branded as the Lady Gaga Helmet Cover (with permission), this brand alone talks about being fashionable and contemporary. Since Lady Gaga is individual in her style this would also evoke the feelings of individuality. I would also be transferring the glamour associated with Lady Gaga to the helmet cover, people will feel that they are glamourous and look good when wearing it.

Here we review the work of our peers on the scale of 1-10 using the following criteria:
